Cairo, Egypt | Engagement Session

I spent the last two weeks in Egypt and had the great opportunity to shoot the engagement ceremony of Heba and Shady. It was fun to experience an engagement in another culture and I loved spending time with their family.

Bangkok Flooding

I flew into Bangkok Friday night not really knowing what to expect. The news is all over the place in terms of the flooding. The drive from the airport to Sukhumvit was painless and no water was to be seen. Signs of the flooding, however, were everywhere. Overpasses have turned into parking lots for cars to escape the risk of water damage, and sandbags line every shop, seemingly whether or not they are at risk of flooding. So yesterday Deirdre and I ventured out to see Bangkok. She’s never been here before, so we took the somewhat touristy route. And off the beaten path we caught signs of the flooding. Major political points and economic areas are protected, while side roads and the poorer areas are being filled with water. Most of these shots were taken outside of Chatuchak Market and around the corner from the Grand Palace. While wandering, we even witnessed a truck full of military open up some of the flood gates and an entire street proceed to fill.

The SOLD Project’s bi-annual parent meeting is this weekend and our students and their families are organizing a food donation drive as well as helping to build some sort or sandbag (translation didn’t quite happen) for flood victims.

Heading back to Thailand…

In just under 24 hours I’ll be on my way. Back to Thailand, to The SOLD Project headquarters, and to the kids and staff that have won my heart and give me such a passion for what I do every day here. I can’t wait to visit with Lynette in Bangkok, to see TaWee and Beth married, to catch up with my dear friend Blah, or play with the kids when they get out from school. I can’t wait to get massages for $6, eat Khaow Soi like it’s my job, and stumble over the little Thai I still remember. I can’t wait to participate in the parent meeting, where this year our kids and their parents asked to learn about the relationship between teenagers and parents. I can’t wait to see the kids’ faces light up as they get letters from their sponsors, or to talk IN ENGLISH to two of our older students who have been studying English on a higher level since I left.

Deirdre, our first long term volunteer and English teacher in Thailand, got there a few days ahead of me and posted these pictures of posters the kids made in our welcome.

This next month my blog will take on an older but familiar face: one of Thai kids and scenery, and then eventually Egypt’s scenery as well when Kevin and I head there later this month. It’s a little break from engagement photos and leather bound books.

Engagement Picture Guest Book

When I shot Tracie and Ryan’s Engagement Photo’s last month they wanted some help brainstorming a creative guest book that could incorporate their engagement pictures. With the great help from KISS Wedding Books I’m really pleased with this final product! The best part is that KISS Wedding Books are made to last. With quality material and thick pages, it’s a book that will sit on Tracie and Ryan’s Coffee Table for years to come.

Becky and Tim | Engagement

When you walk away from a shoot with the surprise of having taken engagement pictures on a nude beach, and you end up soaking wet, you know it was a good day. Meet Becky and Tim. I’ve known Becky since High School when we worked together as Santa’s Helpers at the local mall. We were often asked if we were sisters – a compliment I value as you can see how gorgeous she is! We recently reconnected when she asked me to shoot her engagement and wedding.

Becky and Tim live in San Francisco and wanted to take their shots in the city. We started off at the Palace of Fine Arts and then made our way down to Baker Beach. Who knew that the far end of the beach was a nude beach? Well, now we do! They were fantastically adventurous and I was even able to talk them into getting in the water at the end of the day.

Congratulations to them both. I cannot wait for their wedding next August!

Tracie and Ryan | An Engagement Shoot

Congratulations to Tracie and Ryan! Tracie and I have known each other since High School and it was a joy to finally get to meet her fiance Ryan. We had a blast adventuring through Livermore for this photoshoot. Couples with a sense of adventure always end up with the best pictures! We started at Swirl on the Square in Downtown Livermore, then visited Las Positas Vineyard‘s before heading to a nearby field for sunset shots.
